Lodmoor Beach lies just to the east of Weymouth, near the suburb of Preston, about a mile (1.6 km.) from the town centre and railway station. It lies seaward of the RSPB Lodmoor Nature Reserve and the B3155 Preston Road.
The Lodmoor Reserve is a SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) and is special as it has one of the largest Common Tern colonies in the south-west, The saltmarsh, open water and large reedbed attracts many different birds, which can be observed from bird hides.
Southeast-facing, the beach is usually less busy than Weymouth main beach, as it is a 15 minute walk from the town centre.
Predominantly a pebble beach, backed by a curving promenade with seating, Lodmoor allows safe bathing.
All the usual facilities are located nearby within the Lodmoor Country Park offering the Sea Life Adventure Park, café, play area and events section.
To the north and east lie Furzy Cliff, Bowleaze Cove and Osmington Mills, whilst to the south and west lies Weymouth and Portland.
