Perched on a hill with extensive views to King Alfred’s Tower in Wiltshire and the gentle, unspoilt rural views of Dorset’s Blackmore Vale, you will discover one of England’s most charming and historic market towns. Shaftesbury is also home to the internationally known "Gold Hill" made famous by the Hovis advertisement of the 1970's.
Please note that Gold Hill Museum will be re-opening in July 2011 after major refurbishment work. Shaftesbury Abbey Museum is open daily from 1st April to the end of October (or from Easter Good Friday if earlier).
When planning your visit we suggest you allow up to 2 to 2½ hours to visit both museums and around 3½ hours to visit the museums and the town (this excludes any guided tour of the town and time for refreshments and meals)
